Glenn “Butch” McAtee, Jr., 70, of Greenwood, IN, passed away April 23, 2012 peacefully at home with family by his side. He bravely fought a four year battle from esophageal cancer and complications.
Glenn was born in Beech Grove, IN to Glenn McAtee, Sr. and Dina Murphy McAtee, who preceded him in death. He was a dedicated family man and is survived by his wife of 23 years, Marilyn Hobbs McAtee; daughter, Shannon (Zac) Chapman, Brady, Lily, and Izzy; sons, Tony (Leann) Politan and Taylor; Rob (Leslie) Politan and Bandit; also survived by his sister, Diana (Gery) Lindblom, Brian (Melissa), Kirstin, Karli and many cousins.
Glenn graduated from Columbus High School, Columbus, IN and Indiana University. He worked for Indiana Bell (Ameritech/AT&T) for 27 years and retired in 1995. Glenn continued working as a private communications consultant until 2000.
He and Marilyn moved to Brown County, IN (1996) where Glenn continued to pursue his hobbies that included swimming, diving, fishing in Canada, Indy car racing, gardening, IU basketball, and his love of animals; Glenn left behind his beloved dogs Henry, Cher and Dora the Cat. Glenn was a member of the Brown County Cottonwood Christian Church, former member of Sertoma, board member of the Brown County YMCA, and ran for the Brown County Council in 2008. In 2010, he and his wife returned to the Indy area, moving to Greenwood.
Glenn always brought a smile to everyone’s face with his Irish humor and Ole/Lena jokes. God needed laughter in the world so He made the Irish race, for they can meet life with a smile and turn a happy face.
